My Tyger series pays tribute to the power and intelligence of tigers. These princely predators captured my imagination as a child growing up in Bangladesh, spurred by occasional visits to the Sundarban mangrove forests, habitat of the Royal Bengal tigers. I learned to draw tigers before I could even write. I feel a dream-like connection to their minds.
This body of work reflects elements of a contemporary style of abstract realism. The paintings, with motifs and my signature color pallette, is a link to the presence and consciousness of tigers stretching back through countless generations to the times before the earliest ancient civilizations.
In recent years my personal concern with the mass extinction of animal species started to surface in my work and triggered a deeper interest and investigation into the tragic fate facing tigers today.
My hope is that this work will shed a little more light on poaching, encroachment and the gradual mass extinction of animals on our planet.
